This year in our Main Course class we have done a lot of stuff but my favorite was The Giver. The Giver was a really good book compared to the other books that we read through out the first term so I wanted to do a review of that.
The Giver was written by Lois Lowry and it was rated 5 stars out 5 stars. Also it has one many awards. The Giver is written by the point of view of a boy named Jonas and he is the main character. Where Jonas lives is a place that has strict rules and simply every one lives the same life. Every one is very polite. At the age of 12 everyone gets an assigned job depending on the interests of that kid and what he or she is good at . Every one gets an assigned wife or a husband and all of the families get 2 babies that aren’t actually theirs. When people get old they live at a place called Old House untill they are finally released.
Jonas lives with his father, mother and his little sister. He is totally concerned about the Cerenomy of Twelve which is the event that you get assigned to a job. He doesn’t really have an idea on what will he be assigned to. But Jonas is a special kid. He sometimes do and see things that other people can’t do so he is assigned to be Reciever of Memory and work with the Giver.
The Givers job is to transmit memories and feelings and colors to the Reciever. It is a painful thing because you basically feel stuff that you have never imagine of or even thought of. The Giver transmits the memories by holding his hand on the Recievers back.
One day when Jonas was working with the Giver he founds out that his father was the one who releases people so he gets really angry. He and the Giver make a plan and he rans away with his little brother that is about to be released. They ran away and travell far away. The journey that they took is very hard because of the weather and hunger but they manage to ran away.
